Sustainability

Vyta is committed to the circular economy.
A core pillar of our business, we understand the importance of sustainability and are dedicated to reducing our carbon footprint as well as that of our clients.

Upholding the principles of the circular economy, where possible Vyta will refurbish all working technology for reuse, offering high-grade IT equipment to users through our resale service, or as a donation to our charity education partners. When reuse is not possible, IT assets are responsibly recycled, with a 99% material recovery rate.

As part of our green journey, our ROI and NI sites are certified carbon-neutral under PAS2060, with our GB site awaiting audit.

The rise of ewaste, the fastest growing waste stream globally, uses up far too much of our planets resources, and causes harmful pollution when sent to landfill.

Reducing the environmental impact of your redundant IT

Vyta focuses on the reuse of redundant IT equipment, as opposed to the recycling of it, in line with the circular economy and reducing the environmental impact of ewaste.

Did you know…

70% of the energy a typical laptop consumes during its life span is used in the manufacturing process?

For each laptop processed for reuse, 316kg of CO2 and 190,000 litres of water are saved versus producing a brand new laptop.

Whether you have a few used PCs or an entire data centre of redundant assets, Vyta manages the full process – from collection to processing, data removal and recycling or disposal.

Our zero-landfill policy means no component of your old IT is an environmental burden. Obsolete parts are dismantled, entering material streams to make new products

Looking after our environment

Vyta maintains a fleet of modern vehicles, an important factor in our PAS2060 carbon-neutral certification

We assess routes of travel and the correct vehicle size needed for the equipment in scope, otherwise tying-in multi-point collections to maximise the vehicle’s efficiency for the day

Processing for Reuse

Items that have been selected for reuse are graded during the test phase.

Processing of Ewaste

Equipment selected for recycling is segregated and filtered into various material or item types for further refining.

Recycling

Where permitted, HDDs are data-wiped for resale. If shredding is the preferred method of destruction, all HDDs / SSDs will be shredded, and the debris recycled.

Reuse

With a zero-landfill policy, Vyta focuses on the reuse of equipment in the first instance

Where it is not possible to reuse the equipment collected, it will be stripped down to component parts for either resale or recycling by material type.

Tape Media

Tape media is shredded, and where available, further incinerated for energy recovery – heat energy produced is recaptured and used to create electricity.

Vyta Stats

In the last year Vyta processed a total of 194,000 IT assets for resale, including 59,000 desktop PCs (with monitors). Processing these PCs for resale prevented nearly 20,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions* – that’s the equivalentof 3,300 adult male African elephants!

20,000 tonnes of C02 is 3,300 elephants in weight

Did you know…

It would take over 960,000 mature trees one year to absorb 20,000 tonnes of CO2?

Reusing 59,000 desktop PCs prevents 20,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions,
which is equivalent to offsetting the average annual carbon footprint of around 2,000 Britons
and enough energy to drive an electric car around the world 600 times!*
