AMI Awarded Distinction with Honours ADISA Certification for both facilities

Following our recent audits, AMI is delighted to announce that we have been awarded the highest level of accreditation that ADISA (Asset Disposal and Information Security Alliance) can give – a Distinction with Honours for both processing facilities (Belfast & Dublin) and is now certified against the new for 2020, ADISA v7.0 standard. Our onsite hard drive and media shredding brand DiskShred is also certified.

Leader in the IT Asset Disposal and Data Security industry

With over 35 UK members and  200 failed applications in the last 2 years, ADISA has only awarded this level of certification to a total of 5 members and achieving this validates AMI’s position as a leader in the IT Asset Disposal and Data Security industry.

Distinction with Honours

Philip McMichael, CEO at AMI said ‘’AMI is delighted to have been recognised by ADISA as having passed the latest audits with ‘Distinction with Honours’.  AMI has now achieved the unique position as the only ITAD organisation ever to been awarded at this level by ADISA for 2 separate facilities. An absolutely incredible achievement. We’ve spent decades refining and strengthening our processes to ensure utmost security in handling our clients’ data and to have now earned this status is something everyone at AMI is hugely proud. I am thrilled by the commitment of the entire AMI team in making this happen.’’

Bringing assurance to the process of IT asset retirement and disposition

Launched in 2010 by Steve Mellings, ADISA operates a range of certification schemes to help bring assurance to the process of IT asset retirement and disposition. Mellings strongly believed that the lack of regulation in the data disposal industry at that time was a disaster waiting to happen. The standard aims to highlight the IT security risks within the asset disposal process and improve service quality, raise professionalism and ensure an acceptable sanitisation process protects data.

The Audit Process

The ADISA audit is multi-layered, and members are subjected to regular full audits and also undergo unannounced spot-check audits where the auditor checks that the business is running in accordance with the ADISA standard. As part of the spot checks, data-bearing assets being picked at random and forensically checked to ensure all data has been removed.

The standard comprises of 9 modules with over 120 Essential Criteria that MUST be passed to gain certification and over 60 further criteria which are ‘Highly Desirable’. These extra marks are added to the overall score with members being certified as a Pass, Merit, Distinction or with the highest award ADISA can give and the one awarded to AMI, Distinction with Honours. To receive this coveted accreditation, members must score over 95%. ADISA members only remain certified if they pass the audits.

Steve Mellings, CEO at ADISA said ’’ADISA commend AMI on achieving Distinction with Honours on both their certified sites – Belfast & Dublin – the first time this has been achieved in the 10 years since ADISA launched their certification scheme. It is testament to the hard work , commitment and dedication of all the AMI team to maintain consistently high standard’s during the ITAD process ultimately resulting in both sites being certified with the highest award ADISA can give. ADISA’s view is that where data security is concerned, we cannot afford to permit organisations to work towards compliance whilst holding the title of “ADISA Certified. As a result, ADISA members work very hard to maintain their certificated status. IT Asset Disposal companies are Data Processors and must operate in a specific way to help their customers, the Data Controller, comply with data protection regulations.”

Scored over 96%

Audited 18  times since joining ADISA, AMI has demonstrated the highest commitment to meeting the ADISA standard and scored over 96% for both facilities.
