Vyta opened its doors for the first time back in 2001. Originating as a computer repair shop with a small team based on the Boucher Road in Belfast, the company now ranks among the top seven of companies audited worldwide by leading global IT disposal standards body ADISA. Vyta has grown significantly to become a £4 million turnover organisation with 40 staff working from two processing facilities in Dublin and Belfast, servicing a wide range of private and public sector clients throughout Ireland.
Commenting on the trajectory of the business to date, Philip McMichael, managing director, Vyta, said: “In the last 15 years we have developed a process to make the complex IT retirement process simple for our clients. As a result, Vyta’s operations have steadily increased year on year; in 2015 alone we processed 127,842 IT Assets and serviced 3,500 sites throughout Ireland. The company grew by 20% year-on-year for the last three years.”
Philip is of the belief that people hold the key to Vyta’s success. “We’ve got a very low staff turnover; 60% of our employees have been in Vyta for 5+ years. All employees are 100% security cleared to BS7858 and are trained in the relevant skillsets. There’s no doubt that our people buy into our vision for security, customer service and growth.”
Philip continues, “We have been on a journey with our customers and the industry as it has evolved over the past 15 years. When the EU WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive) law came into effect in January 2007, our customers’ primary focus was on disposing of IT and electrical goods in an ethically and environmentally friendly manner. More recently, with the upcoming EU GDPR regulation, businesses have become more focused on data protection issues, and want to work with a company that has data security at the forefront of its business processes.
“Throughout the years Vyta has invested heavily in security to guarantee our customers peace of mind that their data is in safe hands. In the last three years we have spent €150,000 on security, training and accreditation to maintain our eleven international security and quality certifications. Our Data Erasure Lab uses the most technologically advanced equipment and processes in order to ensure that data-bearing equipment is erased to the most stringent global standards. The Blancco software that we utilise is the world’s most sophisticated data erasure software, performing 50,000 data erasures per day worldwide and exceeding the highest government security specifications in fifteen countries including the US, Britain and Germany. This is why the most security conscious companies choose Vyta, including 25% of Ireland’s top 200 ICT user organisations.”
Further to this, Vyta looks set to continue its growth spurt. The company recently announced a €1.1 million investment that will create 15 jobs by 2018, and see Vyta’s team increase to 50. The investment will also help Vyta to deliver on its plans to triple its Republic of Ireland business to €3 million over the next three years, helping it to retain its position as Ireland’s leading IT asset retirement company.
