Techies Go Green is a movement founded by DataSolutions in March 2021 with the aim of bringing together companies from across the IT and Tech industry committed to decarbonising their businesses and making them green and verifiably sustainable.
Three main goals:
Build awareness Awareness of the issue of climate change in the larger IT community, highlighting the importance of slowing down this change for future generations.
Identify the actions that members of the IT community can take now to help play a part in slowing down climate change.
Go Carbon Neutral – Support members in measuring their carbon footprint with the aim of going carbon neutral by 2030.
2,600 pieces of e-waste in 100 days initiative
COP26 (the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties) starting on 31 October this year will outline how the UN intends to address climate change. To promote COP26 Techies Go Green is running an initiative to collectively recycle and regenerate 2,600 pieces of e-waste by the start of the summit.
How will this work?
Signatories are being asked a to arrange for assets that have reached end of life to be sent for reuse or recycling through a certified ITAD (IT Asset Disposal) company such as Vyta which is a leading IT disposal and recycling provider and signatory of Techies Go Green.
About Vyta
Promoting reuse over recycling, Vyta provides sustainable and secure solutions across Ireland and the UK helping clients extract the maximum value from redundant IT assets, ensuring they can be used effectively for as long as possible. If the product is at end-of-life and cannot be reused components are recovered and reused. Where materials cannot be reused in the manufacturing chain they are recycled sustainably in accordance with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE). This means less than 1% of material from IT disposals ends up in landfill.
By embracing Vyta’s circular economy model, you are reducing your CO2e and enhancing your social responsibility. In addition to the resell of refurbished IT through their e-commerce site refreshedbyus.com, Vyta works in partnership with social enterprises and charities to supply retired and refurbished technology. This process empowers vulnerable people or disadvantaged students while contributing to societal and CSR goals.
Vyta will help you navigate the best, most sustainable and secure route to retiring your equipment.
